Auto Repair Shop Launch Kit

Run your shop in your customer's language — and get every approval in writing

Shop-management suites charge $179–239 per month — and the inspection sheet and approval message your customer reads stay in English. This kit is that missing layer for 1–3 lift shops: bilingual ES/EN inspection forms, written-approval messages over SMS/WhatsApp, a 100-job starter pricebook, the official free VIN decoder and the SOP that turns it into a habit. One payment of $59 — no subscription.

What's inside the kit

One zip, 18 files: inspection forms, message templates, a pricebook, one script, one SOP — plain Markdown/CSV/HTML you open with what you already own. No software to install, no account to create.

Inspection

DVI forms — Spanish + English

The same Digital Vehicle Inspection every car: tires, brakes, fluids, battery, steering — Green / Amber / Red marks with measurements and photo slots. Print-ready bilingual sheet with an authorization block, plus tablet versions.

Approvals

Message templates that get a yes or no

SMS / WhatsApp / email templates with the five parts: who you are, which car, photos first, job + price + why, one question with a deadline. Plus the follow-ups: ready-for-pickup, 48-hour check-in, maintenance reminders.

The board

Approval flow, one row per repair order

NEW → DVI DONE → QUOTE SENT → APPROVED / DECLINED / NO REPLY → CLOSED. The states, the rules and the sheet that end the verbal "OK" — and turn declines into weekly pricing data.

Pricing

100-job pricebook + labor-rate calculator

A starter CSV with Spanish and English job names and US market ranges to replace with yours — plus the pricing-matrix method and an offline calculator that finds your labor-rate floor and checks each job's price.

Tools

vin-decode.sh — official NHTSA database

Year / make / model / engine in one command from the official free NHTSA vPIC database (US-market vehicles, no key, tested live). macOS/Linux, needs only curl and python3. A lookup — not vehicle history.

License

One buyer, your whole shop

A single-buyer commercial license: use and adapt everything in shops you own or manage, forever. Reselling or sharing the files isn't included — each location gets its own copy.

What this kit will never tell you

No outcome promises. A written approval habit does not come with an approval-rate or profit guarantee — shops differ. What the kit gives you is the loop that removes the two real killers of small-shop trust: the verbal quote and the verbal "OK", plus a 15-minute weekly measurement to see your own numbers move.

No licensed data. The 100-job pricebook ships with US market ranges that are a starting point you replace with your prices — it is not a labor-time guide or parts catalog, and the VIN tool returns year/make/model/engine from the public NHTSA database, not vehicle history. Every template is original and yours to edit.

Work, not magic. The first evening costs about 90 minutes (print forms, price the book, load templates). The habit costs one week of doing it on every car. That is the honest price of a counter that runs in writing — in two languages.

How you'll use it

From zip to the first written approval on the next car in — then the loop just repeats.

Evening 1 — set up

Print, price, load

Follow SETUP.md: print 20 bilingual DVI sheets, replace the pricebook's placeholder ranges with yours using the labor-rate calculator, paste the message templates into your phone with your shop details once.

Week 1 — run the loop

Every car: DVI → photos → written ask

Inspect the same way every time, photograph every Amber and Red, send the approval while the car is on the lift, log the answer on the board. Verbal estimates stop being the default.

Week 2 — close the loop

Reminders + 15 minutes of numbers

Start the pickup and 48-hour check-in messages, set the maintenance reminder list, and count five numbers weekly: DVIs done, approvals sent, approval rate, average ticket, comebacks.

One price. The counter system is yours.

No monthly plan, no per-lift fee, no subscription — the suites already charge enough of those.

Frequently asked questions

Is this software like Shopmonkey or Tekmetric?

No — and on purpose. Those suites charge $179–239 per month and are strong at scheduling, inventory and reporting. This kit is the customer-facing layer they don't localize for small shops: the inspection sheet your customer reads and the written approval they answer. It works on paper, WhatsApp and any spreadsheet — alongside any software you already run, or instead of it.

What exactly do I get?

A zip with 18 files: the 8-chapter paper-to-digital SOP, DVI inspection forms in Spanish and English plus a print-ready bilingual sheet with an authorization block, the photo/video guide, the approval-flow board, approval and reminder message templates (ES/EN), the 100-job pricebook CSV with a pricing method and an offline labor-rate calculator, vin-decode.sh (macOS/Linux), and the license. Plain Markdown/CSV/HTML except one shell script.

My customers speak Spanish. Do I need the kit in English at all?

Both, deliberately. The customer-facing documents — inspection findings and approval messages — are Spanish-first with matching English versions, because approvals are safest when both sides read the same words. Your internal SOP and pricing method are in English. If your shop runs fully in Spanish, the ES documents stand on their own.

Is the VIN decoder official? What does it return?

It queries the official NHTSA vPIC database — the free, public-domain US government vehicle API, no key or account needed. It returns year, make, model, trim, engine, fuel, body and plant for US-market vehicles, and rejects a VIN whose check digit does not calculate. It is a lookup: no vehicle history, no parts catalogs, no labor times. The build tests ran it live against the real API before shipping.

What is the refund policy?

If the kit doesn't fit how your shop works, write to us within 14 days of purchase and we refund in full — the files are yours to keep or delete. One refund per purchase; we only ask for optional feedback.

Do I get updates?

Yes — every v1.x update (new job categories, template variants, tool improvements) is free. Re-download any time from your download page with the email and password you set at purchase.

The inspection is honest. The approval is in writing. In your customer's language.
